Therapeutic Counselling in a comfortable and private setting

You may be in crisis right now or things are getting too much for you to manage on your own. By being here you have taken an important step forward to resolve your personal struggles. I view the therapy space as one where you can truly be yourself, a place to explore the difficulties you are experiencing and to open yourself up to the changes you wish to make in your life.

My aim is to bring clarity to the issues you are facing and to gently challenge you to increase your awareness around patterns of behaviour and thought processes that may no longer serve you.

I see my role as guiding and facilitating you to navigate your way through the difficulties that bring you into therapy. I will support you in gaining insight and to find the strength to move through what is troubling you. As you begin to overcome your challenges and find resilience this will lead to better emotional and mental well-being.

I am passionate about what I do and create a safe space where there is no judgement. The model I work with is called Psychosynthesis, a holistic, creative approach that sees the uniqueness in every individual. It is a powerful and deep process which gets to the crux of the matter of emotional and mental distress. I see therapy as a collaborative effort and always hold your best interests at heart.

About Me

I have been in private practice as a Psychosynthesis therapist for 25 years and a Clinical Hypnotherapist for 12 years. I have a keen intuitive ability alongside a logical and rational approach.

Currently I am in the process of writing a book about how to survive and thrive after the breakdown of a meaningful relationship something I have experience of both professionally and personally.

Prior to being a therapist I worked in the music industry at major record labels such as EMI and Ariola. I later set up my own agency working with sessions singers and musicians. Subsequently I re-trained as a stress management specialist working for international clients. This led me to train as a therapeutic counsellor.

I chose not to specialize in any particular area and have therefore worked with a diverse group of clients with a range of issues. I have however worked extensively with HSP's (highly sensitive people) as well as clients who have mild to moderate binge eating or binge drinking. I have also supported many women who are childless due to miscarriages or baby loss or other circumstances.

I meditate and have an active interest in Buddhism.

How to get the most out of therapeutic counselling

The therapy space is an opportunity for you to freely express your thoughts and feelings. It is a safe space where we meet, usually on a weekly basis so you will gain a sense of continuity and regular support. I am here to respond to your needs but will prompt and encourage you to be open and honest in your sessions so you get the most from them.

Working at a deeper level generates long-lasting change which can be daunting for some people at first. My role here is to assist you to work towards a greater understanding of your issues and find new ways to respond to them. Ultimately it is your space to go as far as you wish to.

Beyond Break Up

I have worked extensively with people who are going through or have gone through the break up of a relationship. Although many of us experience this in our lives, it is in the top three of life’s stresses and is often a devasting experience.

The changes to our emotional, mental as well as financial well-being can be enormous and life-changing.

I believe it requires special attention hence it is the inspiration for a book I am writing: Beyond Break Up - How to reclaim your life after the end of a relationship.

My location

I work from my comfortable and private practice in Crouch End which is easily accessible from Highgate, Archway, Finsbury Park, Turnpike Lane, Muswell Hill and Hornsey. I also work on Zoom and Skype.

Some frequently asked questions

What is therapeutic counselling?

In the UK there is significant overlap between the terms therapist and counsellor and they are often used interchangeably. As a therapeutic counsellor with extensive training I can work on both a short-term and long-term basis whichever is appropriate for you. Therapeutic counselling is predominately a talking therapy which can address a wide range of emotional and mental issues.

How long will I need to have counselling?

How long counselling last varies from one person to another and it depends on the level of support you need. After the initial assessment I usually suggest we agree four to six sessions and then review how it is helping you and whether you wish to continue. We can then agree a further number of sessions or if you want to continue on an open-ended basis. Some clients come for a few weeks, a few months or much longer, suffice to say it is you who will decide how long your therapy will be.

How long will I have to wait for an appointment?

My aim is to offer you a first appointment known as an assessment session within 1 week.

Usually it has taken some time to seek support and contact a therapist so I always do my best to offer you an appointment as soon as possible. Currently I have a number of daytime appointments available Monday to Thursday and a couple of evening slots Monday to Wednesday though of course this can change.

Will everything I say be kept confidential?

Everything you tell me in your sessions is confidential and will not be passed onto anyone without your permission, including your GP. There are some situations where the law requires disclosure of risk such as child protection issues. If someone tells me they are considering self-harm or they are thinking of doing something that puts others at risk, I may have to consider breaking confidentiality though this is extremely rare. In any event I would discuss this with you.

Am I the right therapist for you?

It is essential for you to feel comfortable with a therapist no matter how qualified and experienced they are. You will be dealing with your difficulties, perhaps wanting to share things you haven’t been able to speak about with friends and family therefore it is important that you feel safe. I hope you have a sense of me and how I work but please feel free to ask any questions before you commit to working together. In the event we are not a good fit, for any reason, I am always happy to help you find another therapist as I believe it is crucial that you do find the right person for yourself.

What happens in an initial session?

This is an opportunity for you ask me any questions, no matter how irrelevant you think they may be. I will ask you a number of questions about your reasons for seeking counselling now and about your background, family history, current situation and any other relevant information I feel is pertinent to you. I will also tell you more about how I work.

There is no need for you to ‘prepare’ anything but please feel free to take a few notes in the initial session. If this is your first experience of counselling and you feel a little anxious, that is fine and natural, I will do my best to put you at ease.
